The work of Ana Elena Garuz (Panama, 1971) decontextualizes the elements of the world and peruses on exploring its two-dimensional and sculptural possibilities. Garuz submits the everyday matter – related to her daily life – to a rigorous process of classification, recombination, and interpretation; i.e., arranges her own puzzle to create new worlds.

Garuz’s aesthetic journey, from its beginnings, manifests a will to extreme concentration. The inherent sophistication in her arduous and precise work comes from the ways she experiments, without ceasing, with materials that present possibilities deeply rooted in minimalism, abstraction, urban life and her intimate memories.

Ana Elena Garuz lives and works in Panama City, Panama
